Year 6 pupils at Christ Church Academy took a trip back in time this week to experience what life would have been like for children their age during Victorian times.
They visited Quarry Bank Mill in Cheshire to experience industrial life as an apprentice during the nineteenth century.
They had a school room lesson, prepared their beds of straw, saw the mill’s physician and got to see the mill’s machinery in use.
Pupils learned of the poor health and safety standards of the times and enjoyed doing many of the mill’s jobs such as scavenging and ‘carrying the can’. A great day was had and a huge amount learned throughout an action packed day.
