‘Learned Friends’ by Ginny Davis
We hope those of you who enjoy Live & Local shows will be able to join us on 24th March for a ‘captivating courtroom drama’ acted out by Ginny Davis and Sharon Baylis. The ‘Learned Friends’ are involved in the Crown Court case of a high profile football manager, Phillip Bullimore, and we meet them in the Barristers’ Robing Room.
Ginny Davis has been on the rural touring circuit for many years and made successful appearances at the Edinburgh and Buxton Fringe Festivals. She came to Broughton in 2011 with her one-woman show, ‘Ten Days – that shook the Kitchen,’ when we enjoyed her very funny portrayal of housewife and mum of three, Ruth Rich. We are pleased to welcome her back together with Ruth Baylis, whose TV credits include ‘The Bill,’ ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘Juliet Bravo.’
In ‘Learned Friends’ Ginny draws on her long association with the law. Her father was a solicitor and her mother a JP, while she herself has worked as a criminal barrister in Birmingham and is married to a High Court judge.
We are lucky to be able to enjoy professional performances so close to home and are indebted to Live & Local Ltd, the Arts Council England and Staffordshire County Council for making this possible. Once again, this show is in aid of Broughton Tennis Club which still needs more funds to help pay for the recent court renovation.
The play is suitable for adults and older children, and tickets priced £10 for adults and £7 for under 16s are available from Judy Thompstone (01630 620225) or Louise Butter (01630 620479).
STOP PRESS: We have just heard that the ‘Learned Friends’ will be moving on from Broughton Parish Room to The Old Bailey in April and Birmingham Crown Court in May!
