Stone Youngsters Win at English Indoor Rowing Championships

On Sunday 5th February, a group of youngsters from Stone and other members of Trentham Boat Club Junior Squad travelled up to Manchester Velodrome to take part in the English National Indoor Rowing Championships.

The squad had phenomenal success with members winning a total of 32 medals in the following categories:

Girls Age 13 – Individual Silver and Bronze (no team event available for this age group)

Boys Age 14 – Team Relay Gold and Individual Gold

Girls Age 14 – Team Relay Gold and Individual Bronze

Boys Age 16 – Team Silver and Individual Silver

Boys Age 18 – Team Gold

Girls Age 18 – Team Relay Gold and Individual Silver

Open Lightweight – Individual Gold and Bronze

Open – Team Relay Gold

All races are completed on rowing machines, Individual races either test who can travel furthest in a fixed period of time (up to age 15) or over a fixed distance of 2000 metres (age 16 and over). The Team Relay events involve 4 rowers per team who travel a distance of 3000 metres between them on the same rowing machine, so they constantly switch places throughout the race.

Members of the successful squad include Ella Howells, Lottie Hallam, Olivia O’Dunne, Millie Softly, Christian Hallam, Alex Mairs, Ethan Phagurey, Cameron Dean, Elliot Hudson, Luke Brown and Patrick Brown from Stone and Yarnfield plus many others from Trentham Boat Club.
