College to celebrate equality and diversity

Staff and students from Stafford College have been invited to take part in a number of activities to celebrate equality and diversity.

The College’s Equality and Diversity Day, which will take place on Thursday 18 May at their Earl Street campus, will see hundreds of students celebrating equality and diversity by taking part in fun but educational quizzes, activities and talks.

Staff and students from the College will be visited by actor, Andrew Shim. The ‘This is England star’, who portrayed ‘Milky’, will be talking about how equality and diversity was explored during the making of the film and TV series.

During the day, students will also have the opportunity to participate in interactive equality and diversity workshops and local organisations and representatives including Macular Society, Changes, Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) and others, will be raising awareness of what support they provide.

Lynsey Shearsmith, Student Engagement Co-ordinator at Stafford College, said:

“Equality and diversity is an important topic for the College. We’re keen to promote that when studying with us, everyone should be treated equally regardless of their race, sex, sexual orientation, disability, religion or belief and age. The day is all about raising awareness and embracing everything that encompasses equality and diversity, which is part of our organisational core values.”

Stafford College has a large team of people including Student Welfare Officers and Counsellors to support students during their time at the College. The Additional Learning Support team also support students with specific learning difficulties and provide tailored support and assessments to ensure they are achieving the best of their ability.

In additional to welcoming students on its mainstream courses, the College also offers a range of courses for both young people and adults with learning difficulties/disabilities.
