‘Suspicious fire’ leads to crispy ducks – but the race will go on!

Stone Lions plans for this year’s Duck Race went up in flames when a suspicious fire took hold in the building where the 1,100 ducks were stored last month.

Sadly all the ducks were lost, but the annual duck race will go ahead – as the “Duckless Duck Race Draw” – to take place on Saturday July 8th at noon by the River Trent at the Canoe Club in Stone.

We are hoping for a record take up of tickets this year as a mark of respect to the valiant ducks who have served Stone for so many years.

Please look out for Stone Lions selling the draw tickets – including at Stone Festival Carnival Day Saturday 10th June and at Morrisons from Monday 19th June to Friday 23rd June – where we will be bringing some of our sadly scorched friends out for one last outing.

Even the ducks in the rafters couldn’t escape!
