End of season social a sizzling success for Stone Rugby Club

With another successful season coming to an end, and hopes high for the next season of rugby, Stone Rugby Club celebrated in style with a sizzling ‘Bring Your Own’ BBQ.

The night started with the BBQ being stoked by our newly elected treasurer Charlie Laidlaw who ensured that preparations were ready for the well-deserved celebrations. As more guests, (players, family members, children and pets alike!) arrived it was decided that football was simply the only option, however, as more beers were consumed and those playing got slightly merrier, it descended further into ‘Aussie Rules’ football, and eventually a glory-game of rugby.

Awards were presented to numerous members for their tireless efforts throughout the season. Many well deserved recipients were awarded, with ‘Old Sod’ going to Gary Cunningham, who had won the award more than 5 years earlier, and is still an active player for the team. “I can’t believe it’s been five years since the last one and I end up winning again!”, he remarked.

‘Player’s player’ was awarded to Vice-Captain, John Bekalo, and ‘Clubman of the Year’ going to newly elected Secretary, Ruth Millington.
Thoughts move towards the new season with an ‘Old Boys’ match being played on Saturday 2 September. The popular event is likely to draw many players, past and present.
