Lichfield were on the road to South Yorkshire for an encounter with Doncaster Phoenix but couldn’t rediscover their form with a high scoring 43 – 33 loss. Longton were also away at Derby, the final score of 73 – 3 keeping them second from bottom in the league.

Midlands 1 West.

Burton played host to Rugby Lions maintaining their winning streak 42 – 7, moving the East Staffordshire team to the top of the table with a little help from near neighbours Stoke. Stoke travelled to Bromsgrove for a match against the league leaders, the potteries side grinding out an impressive 29 – 37 win. Wolverhampton played host to Stourbridge Lions with a final score of 17 – 22 giving the hosts the losing bonus point and lifting them out of the bottom two in the league.

Midlands 2 West (North).

Leek couldn’t continue their winning ways as they narrowly lost 16 – 19 against a travelling Whitchurch. Tamworth hosted Veseyans with a 19 – 15 win enough to earn them the points. Newcastle welcomed Crewe & Nantwich but had a difficult afternoon losing 12 – 51. Walsall took the short journey to Spartans but came home empty handed with a 27 – 14 loss.

Midlands 3 West (North).

Barton were left still searching for some good form, going down 66 – 0 away at Shrewsbury. Handsworth welcomed a travelling Cannock but it was the visitors who took the spoils with a 26 – 31 win. Burntwood were on the road to Harborne a 17 – 46 win maintaining their unbeaten record and holding onto the top spot in the league. Stafford was the venue for a travelling Uttoxeter, the county town team earning the victory 41 – 0. Trentham visited second in the table Telford, coming home with a 45 – 10 loss. Willenhall were looking for the win away from home at Edwardians but couldn’t quite keep up with the hosts as they lost 26 – 14.

Midlands 4 West (North).

Bloxwich travelled to Essington for both Staffordshire teams to battle out an exhausting 15 – 15 draw. Eccleshall were automatically awarded their game when Church Stretton couldn’t make the fixture, moving the hosts to depose Wednesbury and head up the league. Rugeley welcomed Wednesbury with a final score of 15 – 21 giving the win to the visitors.

Midlands 5 West (North).

There were no league games for Gnosall, Linley or St Leonards this week.

Staffordshire Reserves League Division 2.

Whittington travelled to Bognop Road for a 1st versus 2nd clash against Willenhall 2nd XV, the visitors maintained their impressive record with 17 – 36 win to hold onto top position. The result for Barton 2nd XV vs Stone was not available at time of publication.
