On Saturday, 31st March a horde of hat-wearers is set to descend on Stafford town centre to take part in a Flash Mob to help raise funds for Brain Tumour Research as part of its ‘Wear a Hat Day’ campaign.
The gathering is the brainchild of Ingrid Wagner, co-organiser of Staffordshire wool & yarn show Wool @ J13, to support one of the event’s nominated charities. Hat-wearers will gather at the Soup Kitchen in Church Lane, just off the Market Square in Stafford for breakfast between 9am and 10am to participate. Literally anyone with a hat to wear is welcome, as Ingrid explains:
“When researching charities to support at the 2018 edition of Wool @ J13 in May, I was struck by just how many people I’d spoken to had been affected in some way by Brain Tumours. The impact can be truly catastrophic and changes lives instantly – so Brain Tumour Research became one of our nominated charities.
“We wanted to do something to mark the charity’s awareness-raising ‘Wear a Hat Day’ campaign, and thought a gathering of hat-wearers in the town centre on a busy Saturday would do the trick! We’ll have a collection bucket with us to collect donations as we gather and literally anyone who wants to join in is welcome – you just need to turn up at the allotted time wearing a hat.”
Ingrid has also teamed up with Hobbycraft in Stafford to support this important cause – she will be running a Hat-Making Morning in the store on Sunday 25th March, where participants can create their own knitted or crocheted woollen hat from scratch using Ingrid’s famous recycled Big Knit Yarn expertly guided by Ingrid. Places are £3 per person with £2 going direct to Brain Tumour Research. Hobbycraft will also be running a children’s bonnet making class on the afternoon of the 25th March – it will cost £3 per child with £2 from each space going to Brain Tumour Research.
To be a part of the ‘Wear a Hat Day’ Flash Mob event, simply be at The Soup Kitchen between 9 and 10 am on Saturday, 31stMarch.
