North Staffs Advanced Drivers will be presenting a Motorway Driving Session on 15th April 2018 at Sandyford Community Fire Station, meeting at 12 noon and continuing til 5 pm.
Motorways have been off-limits for learner drivers, and are still not covered as part of the driving test, so there are many drivers on UK roads who have never had any formal training on how to drive safely on these roads. As a result, many inexperienced drivers find motorways intimidating, and even amongst experienced drivers there are widely varying attitudes about the correct use of lanes, appropriate speeds and following distances, and the correct techniques for joining and leaving the carriageway.
What are the specific challenges of driving on these types of roads? What are the many rules and regulations? How can you share a multi-lane motorway safely with other types of vehicle, particularly at busy times of the day?
If you are daunted by the prospect of driving on motorways, or are a novice driver who has yet to journey onto these critical roads, our Motorway Driving Session will help you to develop the skills and confidence you need.
If you are interested in taking part, you do not need to book and there is no cost involved, just turn up. Receive friendly one-to-one advice and support from an IAM RoadSmart expert and learn how to drive safely and proactively on the motorway, to minimise your risk and improve your awareness and anticipation of likely hazards.
The day will start at 12 noon with a short theory session. After tea and biscuits we will take to the road for some practical training.
