Warburtons’ employees in Stone are celebrating The Sunday Times’ Best Big Companies recognition for the third year running.
The bakery brand, which employs 33 people at its Stone site, is the only food manufacturer to earn a place on the list for three consecutive years since the survey launched in 2001.
This year the business has moved up from 23rd to 17th on the list. Warburtons remains a family business and is currently owned by the fifth generation of the Warburtons family – cousins Jonathan, Ross and Brett. The family continues to play an active role in managing the business, ensuring that its people remain at its heart, as they did when it opened 142 years ago.
The business works closely with the local communities where it has bakeries across the UK, encouraging its people to get involved in local charity and support work through its community initiative, Families Matter. The initiative focuses on improving family life and health in the local areas. Jonathan Warburton, Chairman, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to be recognised as a great place to work by our people – and to be the only food manufacturer to have secured this accolade for three consecutive years. This is a testament to the hard work, passion and commitment of everyone in our family business. “
The manufacturing and distribution sector continues to be a tough industry to recruit for, but we are very proud to say that our people continue to feel valued, well looked after and proud to work for us. This makes the honour of being on the Best Big Company list even more meaningful and makes our job so much more worthwhile.”
The Best Companies survey compiles the views of employees on eight key areas including wellbeing, leadership and personal development to give the business an overall ranking. Jonathan continued:
“Now in its 142nd year, Warburtons is more ambitious and driven than ever before. We do not rest on our laurels, and this recognition enables us to both continue on our mission to be best for people and to recruit and retain the very best talent there is.”
