Cancer Safe Treatments to be Offered at Luxury Beauty Salon Owned By Stone Mum and Daughter

Mum and daughter team Debbie and Jess Tams

A £1.3 million luxury beauty salon will be offering specialist treatments for people with cancer when they open later in the year.

Beauty and the Bistro is scheduled to open in Basford in October, but work is already going on behind the scenes to plan what treatments and services will be delivered.

Mum and daughter team Debbie and Jess Tams, who own the business have teamed up with a specialist beauty provider to be able to offer a range of skin care products and spa oncology treatments.

They’re working with Jennifer Young, a microbiologist, associate member of the Royal Society of Medicine, qualified aromatherapist, beauty therapist and creator of Defiant Beauty, a company which specialises in providing skincare products for those affected by cancer.

Beauty and the Bistro, which will be based in Brunswick House in Etruria Road will be stocking a full range of Jennifer’s skincare products as well as providing cancer safe treatments.

The salon which will be creating 54 jobs will also be offering a wide range of other services to both men and women including:

  • Skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing treatments
  • Clinical treatment of problematic skin conditions such as acne using state of the art lasers
  • Microdermabrasion
  • Laser hair removal, tanning, waxing, facials
  • Eyebrow and eyelash treatments including microblading
  • Cellulite reduction
  • Massages and body treatments
  • Relaxation suite and mud chamber
  • Tattoo removal (using the Picosure Laser – officially the fastest and most comfortable system in the world)
  • A contemporary nail bar

The Bistro Quarters, a relaxed and friendly eatery, will combine British and Italian menus with fine wine and a cocktail bar set in modern and elegant surroundings.

Debbie, who lives in Stone said:

“We’re absolutely delighted to have teamed up with Jennifer. The work she has done is absolutely amazing and we are thrilled she has agreed to work with us. We all know someone close to us who has battled or been affected by cancer. A cancer diagnosis can be a terrifying prospect and the treatment both physically and emotionally draining. We want to be able to offer people a range of treatments at a time in their lives when they may need it the most. Chemotherapy doesn’t just attack the cancer, it also attacks the body and can cause side-effects like dry, sore, itchy skin, chapped lips, blistered hands and feet, sparse eyebrows and eyelashes and fragile nails. The treatment can be difficult enough, without the physical changes and the harsh reality of not being able to follow the simple beauty routines they took for granted before diagnosis.”

The 51-year-old added:

“Many spas and salons won’t treat people with cancer because of the perceived risks involved – we don’t want that to be the case at Beauty and the Bistro. All of our therapists will be undergoing specialist training on oncology body treatments, facials and massage through Jennifer’s training school.”

Jess, a 27-year-old business graduate, added:

“Jennifer’s skin range and treatments are sold in top class spas all around the world and we wanted them to be available here for cancer patients, in Staffordshire too. The natural, organic and gentle formula of these products are also perfect for clients who have very sensitive skin.”

Jennifer, who also wrote ‘Recognise Yourself,’ a well-being guide for those living beyond cancer said:

“Women don’t stop being women when they are diagnosed with cancer, but the treatment can mean you’re told to avoid all the products you enjoyed using before. We developed the products because women with cancer told us what they wanted and how important it was for them to be able to use specialist products on their skin. Working with them, the NHS and their nursing teams we launched a range of products that used ingredients that are safe to use and give people with cancer the chance to care for their skin,” she added.

Work has already started on the interior design of the building with the Interior Design Practice and Mode Architects working together on the project.
