Dougie Mac is pleased to be teaming up with Penny Brohn again, a UK charity specialising in a whole person approach to cancer, known as the Bristol Whole Life Approach, to host events to help those living with cancer from the Blurton-based hospice.
Penny Brohn recognises that being close to someone who’s been diagnosed with cancer can have a major impact on their life too and so offers its services to the loved ones of those living with cancer also.
The two events are free of charge and kick off with a half-day workshop on Thursday 14th June from 10.00am – 1.00pm, free to anyone living with cancer in the local community, as well as their close supporters. The workshop will offer practical help to manage stress, emotional support, healthy eating tips and access to ongoing support locally and online.
In July, the hospice will host a two-day ‘Living Well with the impact of cancer’ workshop taking place from 10.00am – 5.30pm on both Thursday 12th July and Thursday 19th July.
The course will detail how to take simple steps to live well with cancer including; how to prepare and enjoy healthy food, finding a way to bring manageable exercise into your life, managing stress through relaxation and breathing techniques, coping with the emotional and psychological impact of cancer and its treatment, discussing the impact of a diagnosis on relationships, exploring practical difficulties and considering how living with cancer affects our values and beliefs.
Anyone living with cancer is welcome to attend either of these events and is invited to bring one guest with them. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided. Attendees do not have to be known to the hospice, or indeed any other hospice, and can be at any stage of their cancer journey. Spaces are limited and there is a deadline of 7th June to confirm attendance to the half-day workshop, and 26th June for the 2-day workshop.
Day Therapy Unit & Outpatients Manager, Nicci Williamson,
“We’re pleased to welcome Penny Brohn back to Dougie Mac again; their last workshop in 2016 was very well received by attendees who reported it as being very information and full of useful tools and practices to be utilised throughout the cancer journey.”
