We are proud to announce, following the huge success of last year’s event, our third SoapBox Derby in Stone on Bank Holiday Monday, May 28, once again being run from the top of the High Street to the bottom, with a real carnival atmosphere throughout the afternoon and evening.
We have this year increased the opportunity to 50 teams of three individuals, each pitting themselves in a race of speed, dexterity, engineering capability, skill and, of course, the much heralded ability to make the judges and audience whoop with delight at their imaginative introduction prior to the ‘Off’. Having the quickest cart doesn’t guarantee the winner’s podium awaits you later in the evening!
This year each team has two opportunities to race as we are having a Run 1 and a Run 2 with the combined times plus the scores from the initial introduction being added, together to find our winners in each category. There are four categories for entries – All Male, All Female, Junior (all under 18) and ‘The 150+’ (where the combined ages of the team are in excess of 150 years).
Although the event starts at 2pm with the first team entrant, we have much more going on down the length of the High Street and the Market Square from 1.30pm.
The results area and the podium will be located there and the plucky competitors will be displaying their soapboxes (or what might be left of them after the run!) for you all to see.
Late night shopping and cafes and bars will make it a truly spectacular summer night’s entertainment and best of all, it’s FREE!
Whether you are young or old, male or female, come and join in the wonder that is The Stone Festival Soapbox Derby. If you would like an entry form to participate, then simply email or phone Grahame on 01785 814582 or grahame@ octavarium.co.uk as soon as possible in order to reserve your spot and commence building that speed machine dressed to thrill!
