Stone dance and performing arts school Rooftop Studios has unveiled its most ambitious summer school programme to date, with a series of musical theatre workshops set to take place over the course of four weeks.
Offering flexible childcare alongside the opportunity for youngsters to learn new skills, hone talent and build confidence – all whilst having bags of fun – the workshops will be led by the studio’s talented and dedicated team of industry professionals.
First up is a five-day workshop centred on the timeless classic ‘Hairspray’, running from Monday 30th July – Friday 3rdAugust. Over the course of the week, students aged 3 – 18 will learn song and dance routines from the musical before a performance on the Friday to showcase all they’ve learnt to family and friends.
The hit West End show Matilda, based on Roald Dahl’s magical tale of a little girl with special powers, will be the topic of the following week’s workshop. Running from Tuesday 7th – Thursday 9th August, children will once again learn songs and dances from the show alongside taking part in a series of themed craft and creative activities. The following week, a workshop based on the box office smash The Greatest Showman will run from Tuesday 14th – Thursday 16th August followed by a workshop on The Lion King the musical running for 3 days from Tuesday 21st to Thursday 23rd August.
Studio director, Laura Keeling, says:
“Our school holiday workshops have been growing in popularity as more and more parents look for solutions that provide not only flexible childcare but a platform where their kids can develop skills while having fun. Our workshops are designed to suit everyone from seasoned performers who want to one their talents to those taking their first steps into the performing arts, and there will be lots of encouragement to help children develop confidence and realise their potential in different disciplines.
“This year we are running our biggest ever summer school programme, with no less than four workshops and we are hugely excited. We’ve chosen well-known musicals that everyone will be familiar with around which we have developed a fun and accessible range of activities.”
The workshops are suitable for ages 3 – 18 years and youngsters can book on anything from a single day through to entire three or five-day courses. The cost for the five-day Hairspray workshop is £90; for the 3-day workshops is £60 and single days are £25 each. Wraparound care is available too for parents who need to drop off early or pick up late.
All the workshops will take place at the purpose-built studio above Stone’s High Street Arcade, which has recently been fully refurbished.
