Stone Constituency Labour Party members vote unanimously to oppose the sale of land at Tilling Drive.
At its July meeting, the group reviewed all available documents in a lengthy discussion which was followed by a vote to decide on the local party position.
Speaking on the issue, Walton resident and Labour Party member Tracey Lindop said:
“The land is a very important local amenity and is the last remaining open field of its kind in Walton. “The land is a haven for the mental and physical well-being of residents. “Green spaces like this also provide a habitat for wildlife, and the hedges and trees reduce the air pollution from the ever-increasing traffic on the A34.
“I and other Labour members are opposed to the sale of the land for so many reasons, and cannot believe that Stafford Borough Council would even consider selling it as it is designated ‘Local Green Space’ and ‘protected’ in the draft Stone Neighbourhood Plan.”
Stone Labour Party has provided its input to the leader of Stafford Borough Council’s Labour Group, Councillor Aidan Godfrey, who attended the meeting to hear the discussion first hand.
