Cammell Laird 1907 1 Eccleshall 0 – Saturday 29th September Match Report

Hallmark Security NWCFL Division One South Saturday 29th September 2018

Cammell Laird 1907 1 Eccleshall 0

Eccleshall lost their third game in a week as Cammell Laird secured the points with a stoppage time deflected goal, although in truth neither side did enough to win the game.

Eccleshall manager Nick Farrington recalled skipper Harvey Collins after serving his three-game ban, whilst Liam Baker-Haynes, Serkari Ahmadi, Jordan Bennion and Christoph Aziamale all came into the starting line-up. Farrington was without Jake Standbridge as he served a one game ban and the unavailable Matt Quimby and Billy Johnson. Last season’s top scorer Louis Downs remains a mid-long term absentee due to an ankle ligament injury.

Serkari Ahmadi created early opportunities as his pace got him away down the left, the first time he was unable to find a team mate and on the second occasion Christoph Aziamale couldn’t find a route to goal. Aziamale then got away down the right but couldn’t deliver the pass to Ahmadi who would have had the simplest of tasks to open the scoring.

The home side created several openings but rarely tested Eagles ‘keeper Owen Wyatt, the closest they came was when a deflected shot hit the outside of the post.

The second half continued in much the same way as the first, Cammell Laird had plenty of shots at goal, again without calling Wyatt into action.

Aziamale almost opened the scoring as he made his way into the area from the left but could only find the foot of the post.

When the winning goal came in stoppage time, it was in the cruellest of ways as Joseph Foster’s effort deflected off Izaak Walsh and past Wyatt to find the corner of the net.

Whist the defeat was difficult to take, manager Nick Farrington picked out youngster Joe Griffiths for his performance at the heart of the Eagles defence.
