Stone Town Council has secured a replacement bus service to help residents isolated by the withdrawal of former D&G bus routes.
The Council will be sponsoring a three month trial of four, once a week services between the town centre and each of the Aston Lodge, Stonefield, Walton and Cherryfields areas. If the services are well used, the Town Council expects to be able to continue funding them in the longer term.
Services will operate each Friday from Walton and Aston Lodge and each Tuesday from Cherryfields and Stonefield. A morning bus will be provided into the town from each area, returning after two hours. Full details of timings, stops, travelling arrangements and charges will be made available before the start of the services, which is planned for Friday 19th October and Tuesday 23rd October 2018.
The services will be operated in conjunction with Community Link Stafford & District. Travellers will need to become members of the organisation before they can travel, for which Community Link will make a modest charge. Applications forms for membership will be available from the Town Council.
Councillor Rob Kenney, Chairman of the Council’s General Purposes Committee said:
“The Council are pleased to be able to offer this support to residents, after they were left stranded by the withdrawal of the D&G bus service by cuts to the County Council subsidy. The new services will restore a level of mobility and access to the town centre which would otherwise have been lost.”
