1st Stone Guides ….still doing their duty over 100 years later!

Alongside many others 1st Stone Guides took part in the Remembrance Day Parade commemorating 100 years since the ending of the First world War.

1st Stone Guides are one of the oldest Guide units in Staffordshire and their first meeting was held in 1915. Immediately the guides decided to support the Christmas parcels for the troops organised by a Mr George Haddon. The girls knitted scarves and gloves for the soldiers.

During the duration of the  war they entertained the wounded soldiers in the Red Cross Hospital in St Joseph’s Hall; some of the Guides even helped out at the hospital. Twice a week they would push a hand cart around the town collecting salvage.

Over 100 years later 1st Stone Guides are still doing their duty and are a vibrant and enthusiastic group of young women.
