Sunday 9th December saw over 400 Katharine House Hospice supporters visit the hospice for the annual Light Up a Life service. The 20ft tree forms the focal point of the appeal, which sees local people celebrating the life of someone special, as a light shines in their honour this Christmas.

Appeals Fundraiser, Amy Ratcliffe said:

“Each light represents two sides of a special story… On the one hand the life of a person no longer with us and on the other, through the people they knew, they are still helping us to ensure that patients and their families share the best Christmas possible.

“Last year over 2,000 lights shone on the Christmas tree which makes for a really poignant centrepiece for carols, prayers and joint remembrance of those people loved and missed.”

The lights are once again sponsored by Staffordshire-based marketing consultancy MMS Marketing who have supported the service for 15 years. Their generous sponsorship helps to cover the costs so that the lights can continue to shine throughout the whole of the festive season.

Holly Addison, Corporate Fundraiser, said:

“We are truly grateful for the continued and loyal support from MMS. This will be the 15th year they have supported our Light Up A Life Appeal which is incredible! It is such a special appeal to so many people and it is wonderful that it is supported by local businesses too!”

Danielle Mitton, Managing Director of MMS said:

“We have supported Katharine House Hospice with this appeal for the past 15 years because we feel that Katharine House Hospice is a very worthy cause and it is always a pleasure to support the Light up a Life appeal. We really hope that the hospice has a record year in terms of donations, as every penny raised makes a significant difference to the lives of local people cared for by the hospice”.

Katharine House Hospice provides free care and support for adults and their families who are coping with progressive illness across Mid-Staffordshire. It relies upon the kindness of the local community to help generate over two-thirds of the funds needed to run its vital range of services.
