Stone’s Kristina taking steps to help Women’s Aid

Kristina Hofberg

Stone resident Kristina Hofberg will be taking part in an epic sponsored walk which will start  during the festive period and run well into the new year, with the aim of raising money for Staffordshire Women’s Aid.

Kristina has started to walk 1.1 million steps between December 21 and Valentine’s Day 2019.

December 21 is when the Christmas holidays start and violence towards women and children increase, while Valentine’s day is one that should celebrate love, but again domestic violence increases.

To make 1.1 million steps in that time, Kristina must walk 20,000 steps per day with just one day off.

Kristina, in her work at the Mother and Baby Unit at St George’s Hospital, often encounters women who have experienced domestic violence.

She said: “Each year there are 1.1  million reports to the police about domestic violence and that was my inspiration for the steps and the significant calendar events.”
