STONE-BASED MARKETING CONSULTANCY CELEBRATES A 10-YEAR SUCCESS STORY

Stone-based Smart Marketing Works has been celebrating ten years of providing excellent marketing services to its clients this month.

With offices on Stafford Road and clients in Stafford, Stoke and the surrounding area, managing director and owner Kay Porter – who lives in Stone – has charted a path to success over the past decade, growing her agency from a ‘one woman band’ working from home to now a nationally known specialist agency with a team of 14 people.

Although today Smart Marketing Works operates across many sectors, the company is proud of its humble beginnings. Many of Kay’s clients, suppliers and staff have worked with her from the start and she is extremely grateful for their friendship and support over the years.

Smart Marketing Works was founded at the height of the recession in 2009 to support companies within the building and construction industry with outsourced marketing services. Due to her experience, Kay provided marketing services particularly to those within the tiling, flooring and adhesive sectors where her previous experience lay.

A number of her team members worked with her in these sectors prior to the formation of the agency; they have a similar technical grounding which they are able to bring to bear in their daily work at the agency which nowadays also provides secretariat support to industry trade associations. It is through the strong links within the tiling industry that Kay became a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Tylers and Bricklayers.

Kay is careful to combine age and experience within the company with youth and vigour – she sees it as essential in today’s marketing world to keep abreast of the latest changes with technology and social media. Smart Marketing Works supports its community by offering work experience to local pupils and has an impressive record of employing young school leavers and graduates and funding them to undergo further training and career development.

“I am really proud of what we have been able to achieve during our first ten years,” says Kay. “Thanks to the personal support of my friends and family and the incredible commitment and hard work of my team, by continuing to produce demonstrable and impressive results for our clients, we have been able to grow organically to over a half a million pound business; something which I never imagined was possible. We are entirely self-financing and don’t owe anything to the bank.

“We have also been able to expand the services which we offer. Of course our services include all the core marketing areas – advertising, PR, graphic design, event management and print as well as video, web design and social media management, – the agency has evolved to establish a really strong reputation in other specialist areas, for instance developing and writing Continuous Professional Development (CPD) materials for our clients and providing secretariat support to trade associations.
